Wyoming-inspired lodge home in Connecticut listed for $975K

The home at 1879 Litchfield Road in Watertown looks more like a Wyoming lodge than a rural Connecticut home. That’s because the 16-acre lot includes a Western-inspired house that’s for sale for $975,000. It also has a children’s playhouse, a once-functional barn and a 3-acre horse pasture.

Before building the home in 1984, the previous owners spent time vacationing in Jackson Hole, Wyo. After falling in love with the Wyoming scenery, the previous owners wanted a piece of the West in Connecticut. One of the owners was an engineer, according to listing agent Pierre Moran, and helped to design the home.

It has a total of three bedrooms and three bathrooms across 2,976 square feet of living space. The rooms have slanted ceilings and natural light that comes through the gabled roof with dormer windows that is visible from the outside.

The lengthy, wood-covered kitchen has one of the three fireplaces in the home. It also has a large island that serves as an informal dining area, according to the listing details. The kitchen blends into the dining room, which is currently finished with a table that seats eight. The dining room has four large windows that overlook the property and connect to the main entranceway.

There is a pool table in an all-purpose work space in the finished lower level. In addition, the home has a library which could act as a television room, according to the listing. Other unique features part of the home include a second-level balcony that wraps around the whole house and leads to a back deck. There is another balcony in the living room that stretches across the floor-to-ceiling fireplace, connecting two bedrooms.

The home sits on more than 16 acres of land. Between the size of the property and the unconventional home style, Moran said being there is like “disappearing to a magic world.”

Despite the Litchfield Road street name, the home is located in the 06795 ZIP code of Watertown. This home is well above the area’s median sale price of $300,000 as of June 2022, according to national real estate brokerage Redfin. The median sale price in Watertown is up around 9.5 percent from June 2021. Homes in Watertown typically sell after 30 days, according to Redfin, and around 61 homes were sold in the area in June 2022, up from 46 the same time last year..

The 1879 Litchfield Road home is listed by William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty and is presented by Pierre Moran (917.680.3854).
